However, you might want to make an approximation yourself of the cost of painting a room using the guidelines below (FUTURE -- UNDER CONSTRUCTION).  Although a reasonable guide, the calculate-it-yourself price could vary substantially from our quote depending on many variables such as the following.  

  • the extent of prep required (patching, sanding, priming, repairs)

  • accessibility (cathedral ceilings, high walls, crawl spaces)

  • scaffolding requirements (for treacherous areas)

  • paint selection (paints vary widely in costs; as low as $20/4L to over $100/4L

  • number of coats (affected by paint quality and previous colours to be covered)

  • surface (porous surfaces require extensive priming to prevent paint absorption and may require special application techniques)

  • trim requirements, including masking requirements

  • Access: 24 hour/night shift only/weekends only/working around people and obstructions caused by an operating business

  • Environment: obviously a new, empty, unfinished house will be faster to paint than an occupied home with expensive imported Persian carpets...
